Last month, HKBWS visited the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) Secretariat in Incheon, South Korea, as well as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), to participate in a Black-faced Spoonbill (BFS) working meeting. We also teamed up with WWF Hong Kong to compete in the Gochang Big Bird Race, exchanging valuable insights on wetland conservation!

At the meeting, Mr. Yu Yat-tung, Director of HKBWS, presented the key outcomes of the International Black-faced Spoonbill Conservation Meeting held in February this year. Discussions focused on future conservation strategies and research priorities for the species. As an EAAFP partner, HKBWS will continue to advance regional Black-faced Spoonbill conservation and protect migratory waterbirds and seabirds across the flyway.
Beyond the meetings, we joined forces with WWF Hong Kong to form "Team Hong Kong" and competed in the 4th Gochang Big Bird Race against 34 other teams. We proudly took home two awards, Rare Bird Species Award and Best Overseas Team Award. The race provided us an opportunity to network with local and international birdwatchers and conservation experts, enhancing our understanding of the global efforts and challenges in migratory bird conservation.
