Organization introduction:
Founded in 1957, The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) started as an ‘ornithological society’ and has developed to an environmental organization devoted to promote appreciation and conservation of wild birds through research, habitat management, environmental monitoring, conservation advocacy and education. HKBWS’ goal is to protect the bird paradise where people and birds can live in harmony and nature continues to thrive. HKBWS works both locally and internationally to conserve birds and nature and is a member of Birdlife International, the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
HKBWS is a registered charitable organisation in Hong Kong under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
Job Description:
- Manage internal and external communication of the organization.
- Draft media statements, answer media and public inquiries, compile publications, manage online communication channels and publication projects, plan events and press conferences.
- Develop and implement communication strategies which include media outreach, social media content and advertising.
- Acquire detailed knowledge of the organization’s policies, principles and strategies, and maintain up-to-date with relevant developments.
- Develop and adhere to the organization’s branding guidelines
- Support and evaluate results of communication campaigns.
- Build and maintain relationships with media, associations and partners.
- Collaborate with Communications Officer (Fundraising) to support fundraising campaigns.
- Report to Deputy Director and perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communication strategy development, social media management or marketing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
- Experience in social media content creation preferred
- Experience in SEO preferred
- Experience working in NGO preferred
- Interest in nature and conservation essential
- Strategic, creative and outgoing personality

2. Communications Officer (Fundraising)

- Develop, plan and execute fundraising strategies, campaigns and events.
- Maintain and enhance the donation channels.
- Maintain and cultivate our donor database and improve the donor journey.
- Identify fundraising/cooperation opportunities and report on fundraising progress
- Collaborate with the Communications Officer to develop compelling marketing materials, social media content, and newsletters to promote fundraising initiatives.
- Responsible for fundraising relevant administration work (e.g. issue donation receipt, track and report on fundraising progress)
- Assist in membership affairs.
- Report to Deputy Director and perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related disciplines
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in fundraising, marketing, sales or related field. Experience in event management is an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create persuasive proposals and presentations.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
- Proven ability to build relationships and engage stakeholders effectively.
- Strategic, creative and outgoing personality
- Interest in nature and conservation essential
- Experience working in NGO preferred
