Assistant Research Manager

Job Description:

  • Preparation and production of research proposals, project execution plans, financial records and reports;
  • Conduct desktop research, field surveys, and data analysis;
  • Supervise research team members and surveyors, and report to the Director of the Society;
  • Liaison with both internal and external parties on various projects;
  • Act as an in-house scientific knowledge provider ;
  • Responsible to public enquiries and community engagement (if need);
  • Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in ecology, life sciences, environmental science or related disciplines;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in conducting ecological surveys or research, while bird identification skills is an asset;
  • Strong project and/or team management skills with ability to manage resources, to coordinate teammates and surveyors, as well as to liaise external collaborators;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, independent and responsible;
  • Some knowledge in statistical or spatial analysis is an advantage;
  • Proficiency in PC literacy and MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Good command of both oral and written English and Chinese;
  • Curiosity about nature and patience to perform ecological monitoring and scientific research;
  • Physically fit for frequent outdoor environment;
  • Candidates with more experience will be considered as Research Manager;
  • A keen birdwatcher preferred!

 

Research Officer

Job Description:

  • Perform ecological surveys especially for waterbirds;
  • Entering, assembling and proof-reading of research data;
  • Coordination of survey schedule and paid or voluntary surveyors;
  • Report writing for regular ecological monitoring and other research programmes;
  • Assist in administrative duties, including but not limited to handling invoice and reimbursement;
  • Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in ecology, life sciences, environmental science or related disciplines, with 1-3 years’ working experience is preferred;
  • Physically fit for frequent outdoor environment;
  • Some experience in conducting ecological surveys or research, while identification skills in waterbirds is an asset;
  • Proficiency in PC literacy and MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Hands-on experience in one or more statistical or mapping software (e.g. R, SPSS, ArcGIS, QGIS) is an advantage;
  • Good command of both oral and written English and Chinese;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, independent and responsible;
  • Curiosity about nature and patience to perform ecological monitoring and scientific research;
  • Candidates with more experience will be considered as Senior Research Officer;
  • A keen birdwatcher preferred!
