經過數月的耕耘，儲水池終於順利，以增加水口的生境多樣性。在儲水之餘，我們亦在池中種了菱角和茨實，以提升水口的生物多樣性。儲水池除了有助我們確保旱季仍有水源，在菱角收成時節，我們將部份菱角清洗乾淨後與村民分享，同時向村民展示兩種水生農作物的真面目。部份村民提及昔日水口亦曾種植菱角，但目的並非銷售，而是供中秋祭祀和自用。派發水口菱角時村民紛紛綻放燦爛笑容，和我們分享他們童年時以菱角外殼製作玩具的趣事，看到他們童心未泯，興奮地討論製作菱殼玩具的方法，相信村民對水口菱角的出現均感到驚喜和滿足。
After months of diligent efforts, the water pond was finally completed successfully to increase the habitat diversity of Shui Hau. In addition to storing water, we also planted Water Caltrops and Gordon Euryale in the pond to enhance biodiversity. The pond not only helps ensure we have adequate water resources but also reduces water loss from the wetland. During the bountiful harvest of Walter caltrops, we carefully cleaned and shared some of the water caltrops with the villagers and showed them the whole plant of Water Caltrops and Gordon Euryale. Some villagers mentioned that water caltrops were also once grown at Shui Hau in the past, not for commercial purposes but rather for Mid-Autumn Festival offerings and personal consumption. Therefore, when the villagers saw the water caltrops at Shui Hau, they all smiled and shared their childhood experiences of making toys with water caltrop shells. Witnessing their enduring childlike wonder and excitement in discussing methods of crafting water caltrop shell toys, we believe the reappearance of “Shui Hau Water Caltrops” brought both surprise and deep satisfaction to the villagers.
